Climate forest makes real climate benefit
What is meant by climate benefit?
Climate forest benefits the climate by capturing carbon dioxide while it grows. The trees in our Climate Forests bind carbon in the soil and their biomass. This helps to reduce CO2 in the atmosphere and thus limits global warming.
The biomass from Klimatskogen is used for biofuels for renewable and green energy, which contributes to the important task of phasing out the use of fossil fuels.
The biomass from Klimatskogen is also used for long-term carbon storage through the production of biochar - PyCCS (Pyrogenic carbon capture and storage) to neutralize CO2 emissions.
What is meant by climate compensation?
The carbon dioxide emissions that today cannot be reduced through conversion in the form of efficiency improvement and technical solutions, need to be compensated/neutralized through some form of climate investment.
Climate compensation means that you invest in projects that aim to reduce emissions of fossil greenhouse gases or capture and neutralize carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. With an investment in Klimatskog, you contribute to a local effective climate benefit based on proven scientific methods.
Klimatskoga's cultivations can be verified and quantified as the cultivations are done in Sweden. Klimatskoga is a Swedish company, which provides the conditions for insight and transparency and creates good conditions for third-party review of the climate benefit.
Our view on climate compensation
Climate investments in Climate Forests are not an alternative to reducing your CO2 emissions but a complement. We do not want to contribute to any form of greenwashing, but our target group is companies and households that actively work to reduce their CO2 emissions with the goal of reaching the 1.5 degree target. But there are unfortunately few households or companies that today can reach net-zero carbon dioxide emissions without some form of initial climate compensation, no matter how ambitious they are.
We offer solutions to be able to balance the existing CO2 surplus during this transition. Our goal is that the need for climate compensation should decrease as companies and households themselves gradually reduce their CO2 emissions.
What is a Climate Forest?
Climate forests are plantations with fast-growing deciduous trees, e.g. willow and poplar, which are made on land that was not previously forested. Examples of this are fallow agricultural land and contaminated land. In this way, new areas (additionality) are created for carbon dioxide uptake, which is the most important factor for effective climate compensation.
The tree species are refined and selected to efficiently capture as much CO2 as possible for Swedish conditions.
Klimatskog acts as a natural soil improver that continuously increases soil fertility for future food production.
Klimatskog is also used as a cost-effective, biological soil cleaner that cleans contaminated land from environmental toxins such as chemicals and heavy metals.
What is the difference between Klimatskog and ordinary Swedish coniferous forest?
Climate forest consists of fast-growing deciduous trees that capture significantly more CO2 than ordinary coniferous forest, as they grow 5-10 times faster.
A Klimatskog is harvested every 3-4 years and then grows back without any new planting.
What are the advantages of investing/compensating in Swedish Climate Forests?
It gives Swedish companies and families the opportunity to neutralize the carbon dioxide emissions that cannot be reduced with the help of climate-smart services and products.
It reduces our dependence on climate compensations in other countries, which we believe is a more long-term ecologically and socially sustainable solution.
The biomass produced is used as a local/regional resource to create continued climate benefits such as green energy in the form of biofuel for phasing out fossil fuels and long-term carbon storage.

How is CO2 uptake calculated in a Climate Forest?
The estimated carbon dioxide uptake is based on a scientific basis from research and studies by, among others, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, SLU, Lars Christersson (professor emeritus in intensive forest farming) and calculations carried out by Håkan Rosenqvist, agronomist, Swedish Agency for Agriculture. The total amount of carbon dioxide taken up by the Climate Forest per hectare and year is calculated.
To verify the carbon dioxide absorption, Klimatskoga also collaborates with the company Carbon Space Ltd, which gives us the opportunity to continuously monitor the climate benefit. With the help of newly developed AI technology and satellites, the real CO2 absorption in the Klimatskogarna is measured, which gives us very good opportunities to ensure the quality of our customers' climate investments according to ISO 14064:2.
What is Klimatskogen used for when it is harvested?
The biomass that is harvested is used to replace fossil fuels or products that enable long-term storage of carbon dioxide, e.g. biochar (PyCCS – Pyrogenic carbon capture and storage).

How do I calculate my company's CO2 emissions?
Most companies use the GHG protocol which is the most widely used international calculation and accounting standard and is used by nations, organizations and companies as a tool to understand and quantify their greenhouse gas emissions.
If your company does not have internal resources to calculate generated CO2 emissions, Klimatskoga can assist with consulting. We also offer free of charge the use of our CO2 calculator, which is based on the GHG standard.
The result you get shows how many tonnes of CO2 per year your company is estimated to generate. This gives you the basis for how many tons you need to neutralize.
The calculation basis is then used to set science-based climate targets and develop a plan for how one can/should reduce one's emissions.
How can our company use Science-based targets (SBT)?
The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) drives ambitious climate action for the private sector by enabling organizations to set science-based climate targets to prevent the worst impacts of climate change.
If you work according to 'SBTi', neutralization of carbon dioxide emissions can only be done when your company has succeeded in reducing your own carbon dioxide emissions by more than 90 percent. Neutralization should then take place by long-term storage of the carbon dioxide, for example through biochar (PyCCS – Pyrogenic carbon capture and storage) or via BECCS (Bio Energy with Carbon Capture and Storage means that the carbon dioxide after burning the biofuels is captured from the flue gases, compressed into liquid form and stored in underground rock formations).
It is of course difficult to reduce carbon dioxide emissions within all value chains to 90% or more and on the way there it is recommended that your company makes climate investments, for example by buying Klimatskog. What can you do to take responsibility for your and your family's CO2 emissions?
Most households participate in various ways in the transition work to reduce our carbon dioxide emissions. We at Klimatskoga offer households the opportunity to compensate for the carbon dioxide emissions that today cannot be neutralized with climate-smart products and services by climate investing in Swedish Climate Forests.
To find out your household's climate impact, you can use our CO2 calculator. You enter information about your accommodation, travel, eating habits and the CO2 calculator calculates and sums up your total CO2 emissions in tons per year.
When you have received the result from the CO2 calculator, you enter the number of tons per year of CO2 your household wants to compensate for and add it to the shopping cart. When the purchase is completed, we verify your "climate investment" through a certificate that clearly reports how much CO2 you have compensated for.
